Hearthside Kitchen
An open oak kitchen built around a fourteen-seat table.
[ Overview ]
A young family wanted the kitchen to be the house: cooking, homework, parties, all in one open room. We built full-height oak cabinetry along two walls, a walnut-topped island for prep, and a twelve-seat table (it grew to fourteen) in matching oak.

[ The challenge ]
What the room asked of us
The room had three different floor levels and a chimney breast nobody was allowed to move. We scribed the run to follow the old walls and turned the breast into a larder with spice racks in the cheeks.
[ Our approach ]
How we answered it
Cabinets in oak-veneered birch ply for stability, faces in solid oak; island top in full-stave walnut. Everything dovetailed, soft-closing, and oiled — not lacquered — so the family can repair life's marks themselves.
